How To Get Aunts Out Of Tomato Plants ?

If ants are attacking your tomatoes, you likely have another problem that attracted the ants in the first place, like tomato pinworms or aphids. Both of them can cause your plants more harm than the ants alone. Pinworms bore into the fruit of the tomato, giving opportunistic ants easy access to the inside of the fruit. Aphids suck the sap out of the plant's leaves and then emit honeydew, which attracts ants. The ants defend the aphids by killing beneficial garden bugs to ensure a steady source of honeydew. Therefore,if you want to have healthy and dilicious tomatoes, you should get rid of aunts from them.

Things you will need:Pesticide/Sugar/Cornmeal

Instructions:
1.Determine the source of the problem. Check tomato fruit for tiny holes that may indicate pinworms. Treat the plant with an approved insecticide to rid the plants of the worms. Check the undersides of the leaves for aphids and for sticky, clear honeydew. Aphids can be treated chemically or by releasing aphid predators into the garden, such as ladybugs and lacewings.

2.Poison the ants. Mix equal parts sugar and cornmeal and place this "bait" in highly trafficked areas and around the base of the plants. When the ants eat the sugar-laced cornmeal, it expands inside them and kills them. In the meantime, they carry more of the poison back into their colony, effectively killing more ants.

3.Deter the ants with smells. While attracted by even the faintest of sweet smells, ants are also sensitive to unpleasant smells. The odors of mint, cloves, camphor and hot peppers are deterrents to ants. Sprinkle these in spice form around the plants, or purchase essential oils and place cotton balls soaked in these oils around the garden, especially near the tomatoes.

4.Plant flowers that ants find distasteful such as mint and pennyroyal. Not only do ants find them unpleasant, but they will add beauty to your garden and attract pollinators.
